Shannon Milley, LSW, was raised in Burlington County and graduated from Lenape High School. She attended Monmouth University, graduating with a bachelors in Social Work in 2017. She continued on to receive her master’s degree in Social Work at Monmouth University in 2018.
Throughout her college career she interned in the field at a variety of different agencies working with different age groups and backgrounds. She interned at Epiphany House, a sober house for women and children. She gained lots of experience working with families and individuals with addiction and trauma, all from different backgrounds. Shannon completed her Bachelor’s social work field placement at Collier Group Home, a group home for adolescent girls, and was ultimately hired as a counselor. Shannon gained experience working individually with adolescents who struggled with depression, anxiety, trauma, and behavioral problems.
Shannon completed her master’s degree at Monmouth and chose her field placement at Hampton Behavioral Health Center. As an intern, she completed Biopsychosocial assessments and facilitated group therapies on different units, working with adolescents, adults and older adults. In 2018, Shannon was hired as a psychiatric social worker at Hampton. She worked as a case manager and gained experience with individuals ranging from adolescents to older adults. Shannon handled a caseload of 15 patients at a time and has experience working with individuals who suffer from a variety of mental illnesses including anxiety, depression, psychosis, mood disorders and substance abuse disorders. Shannon worked collaboratively with other providers and included family throughout treatment, facilitating family sessions with each patient.
Shannon’s goal is to create a safe and supportive environment for individuals to process and cope with stressful and traumatic life experiences. Shannon incorporates aspects of CBT, DBT, Art and Play therapy to help work towards healing. Shannon’s approach is strengths based, mindfulness based, and person centered.
Shannon joined Serenity Counseling as a therapist in July 2022.
